Preservation Significance
These issues preserve a physical record of contemporary British exotic animal keeping during a period in which husbandry, welfare, conservation and responsible ownership increasingly overlap. The collection documents not only reptiles and amphibians, but also invertebrates, birds and exotic mammals, showing how the modern exotic animal hobby is presented to keepers across a broad range of taxa. The issues also preserve changes over time in subjects emphasized by the publication, including enrichment, biosecurity, conservation breeding, wildlife trade, veterinary concerns and evidence based husbandry. Although a digital back catalogue currently exists, physical copies remain useful evidence of the magazine as originally printed, distributed and presented, and they provide a durable snapshot of contemporary herpetoculture and exotic animal care that does not depend on continued online availability.
