Preservation Significance

These issues document a small Australian herpetological association publication that circulated in limited numbers yet became part of the scientific and taxonomic literature.  That combination of association publishing, limited circulation and later scientific citation makes Crocodilian particularly relevant to a preservation collection.

For the website, the physical-cover evidence should remain distinct from later research.  The covers directly establish Volume 4, Issues 1 and 2, their dates, association title and $7.95 RRP.  Article titles, page ranges, earlier and later issue evidence, and circulation context come from external bibliographic research.

The mastheads add another preservation layer by identifying the people and association structure behind the publication.  They document Seona Adams as Magazine Editor, Mick Pugh as President, Kelly Dougall as Secretary, Bernie Martin as Treasurer, and Paul Tamis, Paul Hulett, and Ian Dougall as members of the Executive Committee.  The mastheads also preserve the Victorian Association of Amateur Herpetologists website and meeting information, showing Crocodilian as a working association publication rather than an anonymous commercial magazine.
