The most useful identifying feature is the dorsolateral ridge, which distinguishes the green frog from the American bullfrog. The tympanum also appears relatively large compared with the eye, suggesting this may be a male.
Green coloration around the head and snout. Olive-brown body with darker markings. Prominent circular tympanum (external eardrum) behind the eye. A raised ridge along the side of the back, characteristic of green frogs.
