I published this here. Technically it is a book but this paperback is part of a Pet Reference Series. It reads like a magazine focused on a single subject. It didn’t seem right to put it with the books.

Preservation Significance

Breeding Snakes in Captivity has preservation significance as an early practical record of captive snake breeding and husbandry from a period when successful reproduction of many snake species in private and zoological collections was still developing into a more established body of knowledge.  Published in 1976, the book is associated with Robert “Bob” Riches, who has been described by another herpetoculturist as one of the early British pioneers of captive snake breeding and whose work influenced later keepers.  Preserving this physical edition retains not only the husbandry information available to snake keepers of the period, but also evidence of how captive breeding knowledge was being organized and shared before modern reptile publications, online care resources, and today’s extensive herpetocultural information networks.  The differing publisher records associated with the 1976 edition and the existence of a later 1989 reissue also make the physical copy useful bibliographic evidence for documenting the publication history accurately.
