Snakes: A Natural History

Author / Editor / Creator:  H. W. Parker; revised and enlarged by A. G. C. Grandison

Publication Identification:  Cornell University Press, Second edition, revised and enlarged, 1977

A museum based natural history treatment of snakes covering their place among reptiles, structure, feeding, reproduction, behavior, ecology, and major snake groups.  Its association with the British Museum (Natural History) gives it particular value as an institutional zoological interpretation prepared for a broad readership.  The revised 1977 edition also preserves an earlier generation of snake taxonomy and biological explanation for comparison with modern sources.
